The San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus (SFGMC) is proud to announce THE LOVE TOUR, which will bring our powerful voices and message of unity to the heartland. From July 7-9, 2024, the 300-member Chorus, under the direction of Jacob Stensberg, will travel to Iowa and Nebraska, joining forces with local LGBTQ choruses and advocacy groups at each stop to elevate the Chorus’s mission of transforming and connecting people through song.
In each city of THE LOVE TOUR, the Chorus will be joined by a local chorus and also shine a light on local LGBTQ+ nonprofits that are investing in advocacy, education, and the celebration of our shared queer culture and people. In Iowa City, the Chorus will partner with the Quire of Eastern Iowa, as well as the family of Puck Carlson, the teen who is the lead plaintiff in the fight against bills that target LGBTQ+ rights in the state. In Omaha, we will join the River City Mixed Chorus and OutNebraska, an organization that invests in advocacy, education, and culture. In Des Moines, we will work with Iowa Safe Schools to help create a fun VIP experience for kids and give them a great time at the concert, where they will share the stage with the Des Moines Gay Men’s Chorus.

ABOUT OUR PARTNERS
The Quire of Eastern Iowa - The Quire is a not for profit chorus for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender persons promoting a positive image of these communities through excellence in choral music. Membership is open to anyone who is gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and to anyone who is respectful and affirming of these communities. Our goals are to entertain, inspire, unite, uplift, and educate while fostering community spirit and pride, to make programs available to an increasing and diverse audience in eastern Iowa, and to feature and provide opportunities for outstanding musicians of this area. For more information, visit thequire.org.
River City Mixed Chorus - For 40 years, the River City Mixed Chorus (RCMC), Omaha, Nebraska’s only LGBTQ+ community choir, has been giving voice to the hopes of many that yearn for a more fully inclusive and diverse society. Over those many years, Omaha has changed and RCMC has changed with it – growing from a group of 10 friends singing at The Max to more than 150 singers who perform at Omaha’s most prestigious arts venues, including the Orpheum Theater and Holland Performing Arts Center. RCMC’s mission of creating exceptional musical experiences to support diversity, inspire change, and empower communities offers singers and audience members alike safe spaces to celebrate all that makes us unique, diverse, and joyful. For more information, visit rcmc.org.
Des Moines Gay Men’s Chorus - As a community champion, DMGMC unites voices to act as a powerful force for change. Founded on the principles of promoting harmony, igniting hearts, and moving minds, DMGMC strives to provide a welcoming space for LGBTQ+ and ally members, where the shared love for music becomes a catalyst for meaningful connections. Through captivating performances and impactful outreach programs, the chorus aims to educate, inspire, and entertain audiences, contributing to broader acceptance and understanding for the LGBTQ+ community. For more information, visit dmgmc.org.
Iowa Safe Schools - The mission of Iowa Safe Schools is to provide safe, supportive, and nurturing learning environments and communities for LGBTQ and allied youth through education, outreach, advocacy, and direct services. All students need a safe, supportive atmosphere in which they can learn, including students that are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning (LGBTQ). Unfortunately, bullying, harassment, and discrimination against LGBTQ students occurs often in our schools. In fact, 82% of transgender youth report that they feel unsafe at school and 74.1% of LGBTQ students were verbally bullied in the past year because of their sexual orientation. As these students face verbal and physical harassment, educators, policy makers, parents, and other students are often hampered by the lack of quality information and resources to protect LGBTQ students. That’s where Iowa Safe Schools comes in. For more information, visit iowasafeschools.org.
OutNebraska - We believe in a Nebraska that embraces and celebrates the full spectrum of LGBTQIA2S+ people. Often, LGBTQIA2S+ Nebraskans experience discrimination, disparities, and isolation – particularly transgender people and people of color. OutNebraska is dedicated to empowering, celebrating, and growing LGBTQIA2S+ communities in Nebraska. For more than 10 years we’ve been making an impact by advocating, celebrating and educating to improve the lives of LGBTQ+ people. For more information, visit outnebraska.org.
