Celebrate the warmth and joy of the season with the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus at our beloved Bay Area tradition, Holiday Spectacular 2024! On December 6 and 7 at the Sydney Goldstein Theater, expect 90 minutes filled with festive cheer, unforgettable music, and plenty of humor that will have you laughing out loud and singing along. This year’s theme, “Together,” embodies the spirit of community, love, and connection that pours from the stage in every note.
In a special twist, our cherished Home for the Holidays concert is moving to the grand Davies Symphony Hall this year, as our usual home, the Castro Theatre, undergoes renovations. We’re ensuring there’s still a place for everyone to gather on Christmas Eve, with two heartwarming performances at 4 PM and 7 PM. Expect a blend of timeless holiday classics, joyful surprises, and the kind of heartfelt moments that make this event one of the most sought after tickets each year.

Composition Competition Winner - Daniel Hughes - “A Winter’s Breath”
Artist Statement: I wrote this poem inspired by a memory I had when I was still in elementary school. My brother and I each had a paper route that connected to the other. On Thanksgiving Eve and on Christmas Eve the route service would drop the bundles of papers off at 11PM, so that the kids doing the deliveries could sleep in or spend time with their families on the holiday mornings. One year we decided to keep each other company on each other’s routes. Everything was frosted over, glistening in the glow from decorative house lights and Christmas trees that all the neighborhood had left on. The sky was clear, and the stars seemed to shine more brightly, making the experience feel like pure magic. We said nothing to each other as we walked, completely taken in by the potent mood. To this day, that perfect and quiet beauty remains as one of the loveliest moments I have ever had in December.
About Daniel Hughes
Daniel Hughes is in constant demand as a conductor, accompanist, coach, and choral clinician. He serves as the Artistic Director & Conductor of The Choral Project — an internationally award-winning mixed-voice ensemble specializing in dramatic, conceptual performance of high-level choral music from the medieval period to the contemporary, as well as ethnic and multicultural repertoire. The choir’s vision is “to transform and heal through music and words,” and their mission is “to connect to one another through choral theater, education and musical excellence.” Under his direction The Choral Project has received worldwide recognition, performing to standing ovation crowds in the United States, Mexico, Costa Rica, England, Scotland, Wales, and Spain.
