San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus Partners With Harvey Milk Civil Rights Academy This Holiday Season
Today, San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus (SFGMC) and Dr. Timothy Seelig, Artistic Director, announced a partnership with the Harvey Milk Civil Rights Academy to help raise funds for the Academy at SFGMC’s upcoming holiday concerts.
“One of the pillars of our mission is community building through music,” writes Seelig. “We could not be more thrilled to be assisting the Harvey Milk Civil Rights Academy with much needed educational enhancements for the K-5 children in this public school that sits right in the Castro.”
The Harvey Milk Civil Rights Academy empowers student learning by teaching awareness, acceptance and non-violence, celebrates diversity, and achieves academic excellence while also fostering strong family-school-community connections. “As a parent of a 2nd grader at Harvey Milk Civil Rights Academy, I’m overwhelmed that the Gay Men’s Chorus would support our children in this way,” writes Jeff Fassnacht, President of the Harvey Milk Parent Faculty Club.
Seelig notes, “The holidays are the time of giving. Sometimes, we don’t know what to give or what someone might need. In this case, we know both. This year, our gifts are going to the children of the Harvey Milk Civil Rights Academy. The fact that the children will know that thanks to the patrons of the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus, they will have fresh fruit in their rooms each week or a person who teaches them constructive play during recess is incredibly rewarding to all of us.”
